Summer Hiking

San Vito di Cadore is an excellent summer hiking base. The village sits at the intersection of several marked trail systems that give access to mountain terrain ranging from gentle valley walks to serious high-altitude routes. The chair lifts that serve the ski area in winter operate in summer too, providing fast elevation gain for walkers who want to start high and push further into the peaks.

Well-marked trails from the village lead into the Val d'Oten toward the Antelao massif, through the forest above Borca toward the Pelmo approaches, and north toward the Tre Croci pass and the Sorapiss trails. The area is well served by mountain huts (rifugi) that provide meals and overnight accommodation, making multi-day circuits possible without carrying a tent. The Alta Via n. 1, one of the classic long-distance routes through the Dolomites from Braies to Belluno, passes through this section of the range and can be joined near San Vito.
