Dečani Monastery is one of the great medieval Serbian Orthodox monasteries in Kosovo, set west of Peja below the mountains. The church is famous for its well-preserved 14th-century frescoes, which cover the interior in dense, vivid biblical scenes.
Security procedures can feel unusually formal, and visitors may be asked to surrender a passport at the entrance. Inside, the mood changes completely: stone, frescoes, monastic quiet, and a small shop selling monastery-made icons, wine, and rakia.
