Getting There

Latvia's main gateway is Riga International Airport, the busiest airport in the Baltic states. airBaltic is the national carrier and offers direct connections to most major European cities. Ryanair, easyJet, Lufthansa, and Turkish Airlines all serve Riga. From the airport, bus 22 runs to the city centre every 10–20 minutes (around 40 minutes). Taxis and rideshares (Bolt, Uber) take about 20 minutes.

Since January 2025, a daily train connects all three Baltic capitals: Tallinn–Riga–Vilnius. The full journey takes 10–11 hours with one change in Valga; Riga to Vilnius is a comfortable direct ride with wi-fi onboard. There are also overnight trains from Moscow, though cross-border schedules change — check Pasažieru vilciens for current timetables.

International buses are frequent and affordable. Lux Express and FlixBus connect Riga with Tallinn (4–4.5 hours, from €10), Vilnius (3.5–4 hours, from €10), Warsaw (~10 hours), and other cities.

Two ferry routes operate out of Riga: Tallink runs an overnight sailing from Stockholm (around 17 hours). From Ventspils on the west coast, Stena Line connects to Sweden and Finland. The ferry is a relaxed way to arrive, especially if you're travelling from Scandinavia with a car.
