Sundial Square (Saulės laikrodžio aikštė) is the city's most photographed open space, a small park anchored by a tall sundial column and the bronze figure of Šaulys — the Archer — drawing his bow. The piece, by Stanislovas Kuzma, was unveiled in 1986 and commemorates the medieval Battle of Saulė, after which the city is named.
The square is at the western end of the Vilniaus pedestrian street and makes a useful pivot point for a walking tour of the centre. A small cafe alongside opens for coffee in summer.
