Trakai is small enough to cover in a day but rewarding to visit slowly. The castle is the anchor, but the town's lakes, the Karaim cultural heritage along Karaimu Street, and the surrounding national park are all worth time. In summer the lake becomes the focus — swimming, kayaking, paddleboating. In winter the castle is quieter and the landscape stark and beautiful under snow.
