Užutrakis Manor

Užutrakis Manor sits on the northern shore of Lake Galvė, directly across the water from Trakai Island Castle — meaning the view from the manor gardens takes in the castle reflected in the lake, one of the most composed landscapes in Lithuania. Built in the late 19th century for the Tyszkiewicz family, one of the great aristocratic families of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the manor is a handsome Neo-Renaissance building surrounded by an English-style landscape park of 52 hectares.

The manor has been carefully restored and is now open to visitors. The interior rooms reflect the late 19th-century taste of Polish-Lithuanian aristocracy — fine furniture, period portraits, and collections assembled by a family with the wealth and connections to acquire from across Europe. The park is particularly pleasant for walking in late spring when the lilacs and chestnuts bloom. The manor is about 2 kilometres from Trakai town — an easy walk along the lake shore.
