Echternach Lake

A 30-hectare recreation lake south of the old town

The Echternach Lake (Lac d'Echternach) is an artificial recreational lake south of the old town, created in the 1970s by damming a small valley. It now functions as the town's summer beach: there is a fenced bathing area with sand, a pedalo and boat-hire concession, a network of footpaths around the perimeter (about 5 km round), and a campsite at one end.

For a traveller it is mostly a place to walk after the basilica and a swim if the weather is right. The lake is also the starting point for several Mullerthal trail extras, and the Roman villa is on its western shore.
