The Musée de la Préhistoire is a serious little archaeological museum on the Place de la Bibliothèque, run by the Luxembourgish national museums service. The permanent display traces human presence in Luxembourg and the wider Mosel region from the lower Palaeolithic — flint hand axes nearly a million years old — through the Neolithic, Bronze Age, and Iron Age up to Roman contact.
The strongest objects are the Bronze Age hoards found locally, with reconstructed grave assemblies, and a careful section on the Treveri, the Celtic people who occupied this area before the Romans. It is small enough to cover in an hour, and well labelled in French, German, and English. A good complement to the Roman villa down the road.
