The Butterfly Garden on the banks of the Moselle is one of the most visited attractions in eastern Luxembourg — and deservedly so. Inside the large tropical greenhouse, more than 40 species of butterfly fly freely in a carefully maintained environment of lush plants, pools, and carefully monitored humidity. The combination of warmth, colour, and constant movement makes it unexpectedly magical even for visitors who didn't come expecting to be charmed.
The garden is popular with families, but it holds its own with adult visitors. Boards explain the life cycles and origins of the different species, and there are usually pupae visible in the breeding area, allowing you to see butterflies emerging in real time. Allow at least an hour; the adjacent outdoor area along the river makes a pleasant extension if the weather cooperates.
