Moselle Cycling Route

Wasserbillig is the eastern terminus of Luxembourg's Moselle cycling route, which runs 42 km south along the river to Schengen. The path is paved, well-marked, and almost entirely flat, tracing the vineyard-flanked riverbank through a string of wine villages. Remich, Stadtbredimus, and Grevenmacher are the main stops along the way, all with riverside cafes and wine cellars.

From Wasserbillig you can also continue directly across the bridge into Germany and follow the German Moselle route toward Trier — the city is about 20 km upstream and the riding is equally pleasant. The route is practical as well as scenic: the CFL train line runs parallel to the river, so you can cycle one direction and take the train back.

A story
The EuroVelo 5 and local Moselle cycle route follows the river from its source in the Vosges mountains all the way to where it meets the Rhine at Koblenz. The Luxembourgish stretch between Schengen and Wasserbillig is among the flattest and most scenic sections of the entire route — a rare combination.
