Wasserbillig sits at the edge of Luxembourg's wine country. The town itself has no dedicated wine cellar, but the Moselle wine route runs right through — and the first producers are found within a short cycle south toward Grevenmacher and Mertert. The region produces Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and the distinctive Elbling, a grape with ancient roots that produces a dry, crisp wine with high acidity.
Wine shops and caves are scattered along the Route du Vin between Wasserbillig and Schengen. Most welcome visitors without appointment outside harvest season. Grevenmacher, five kilometres south, has the best concentration of producers and the Cave Viticole de Grevenmacher offers guided tastings. If you are cycling the Moselle route and want to add a glass of the local Riesling, you will not have to look hard.
