Old Bazaar (Čaršija)

Kičevo's old čaršija is a compact Ottoman-era market district in the town centre, a modest but authentic example of the commercial architecture that once defined western Macedonian towns. Small shops, craft workshops, and tea houses occupy stone and timber buildings along narrow lanes. It is nothing on the scale of Skopje's Old Bazaar, but that relative lack of tourist attention is part of its charm.

Wander the lanes on a weekday morning when traders are setting up and local life is at its most visible. The bazaar sits alongside the main square and can be walked in twenty minutes, though it rewards a longer, slower visit over a coffee at one of the small cafes tucked into the older buildings.
