Strumica is in the far southeast of North Macedonia, an hour from the Bulgarian border at Novo Selo–Zlatarevo and 90 minutes from the Greek border at Doiran. From Skopje it is about 170 km by the M5/A1 highway, around two and a half hours by car. Several bus companies run direct services from Skopje (about 3 hours, departures roughly every hour) and from Sofia in Bulgaria (around 4 hours).
There is no passenger train service. The nearest international airports are Skopje (2.5 hours) and Thessaloniki in Greece (3 hours by car or a longer bus journey via the border). Hire car is the easiest way to reach the surrounding monasteries and villages.
