Strumica's central square — one of the largest in the country — and the ruined fortress on the hill above town make for a half-day in the city itself. The real reasons to stop are around the edges: the 11th-century Veljusa and Vodoča monasteries, the saturday market, and (if you can time your visit for early March) the country's biggest carnival.
