Praskvica Monastery

Praskvica Monastery sits on a hillside above Sveti Stefan, surrounded by olive trees and with open views down to the coast. Founded in the 14th century, the complex has two churches: the older Church of St Nicholas and the 18th-century Church of the Holy Trinity. Both are modest in scale but atmospheric — bare stone walls, old frescoes, the quiet of a working monastery.

The monastery is about 2km from the coast and reachable on foot via a path through the olive groves, or by a short drive on a rough track from the main road. Modest dress is required; there is no admission charge.

A story
The monastery's 1413 charter, issued under Despot Stefan Lazarević, is one of the oldest preserved legal documents in Montenegro. The original is held in a museum in Cetinje; a copy remains at the monastery.
