The view of Sveti Stefan from the hillside road above is one of the most reproduced images of the entire Balkans — the turreted stone village sitting on its rocky islet, tethered to the shore by a thin sandy causeway with water on both sides. Pull over at the roadside viewpoint for the full panorama. At sunrise and late afternoon the light turns the stone walls golden.
The causeway itself is accessible to everyone and worth a walk down even if you cannot enter the island. The beach stretches on both sides, and the medieval silhouette of the village is right in front of you — as close as non-guests can get to Aman Sveti Stefan, one of the most exclusive hotels in the world.
