Historisch Museum Amstelveen

The local history museum, housed in the seventeenth-century Oude Wagenmakerij near the old village, traces Amstelveen's development from a marsh-cut peat-digging settlement to a postwar suburb. The collection is small but well-curated, with strong material on the polder landscape and the rebuilding of the town after the 1953 flood.

Free entry, and a useful stop for anyone interested in how the Dutch built a modern city on land reclaimed from a swamp.
