Old Village (Oude Dorp)

The original village of Amstelveen survives as a small enclave of historic buildings around the Amsterdamseweg, a few hundred metres south of the Stadshart. The seventeenth-century Oude Kerk (Old Church) with its squat brick tower is the centrepiece, surrounded by old farmhouses and small canals that hint at what the area looked like before postwar expansion.

The area has been gradually colonised by restaurants — French bistros, an Argentinian grill, an Italian or two — making it the most pleasant place in Amstelveen for an evening meal. A small Sunday market runs in summer.
