Day Trips

The must-do day trip from Arnhem is to the Hoge Veluwe National Park, about 20 minutes north by car. The park covers 5,400 hectares of forest, heath, and sand dunes, and you can explore it on free white bicycles. Inside the park, the Kroller-Muller Museum holds one of the largest van Gogh collections in the world, plus a sculpture garden with works by Rodin, Moore, and Dubuffet.

The Airborne Museum Hartenstein in nearby Oosterbeek tells the story of Operation Market Garden from the British perspective, housed in the hotel that served as divisional headquarters during the battle. Worth combining with a walk through the Oosterbeek war cemetery.

Doorwerth Castle (Kasteel Doorwerth) is a medieval castle on the Rhine, about 10 km west of Arnhem. The castle houses a small museum and the grounds are pleasant for a stroll.
