Dokkum has no train station. The nearest rail connections are at Leeuwarden (23 km southwest) and Groningen (45 km east).
By bus: Arriva operates regular bus services from Leeuwarden to Dokkum; the journey takes about 35 minutes. Services run roughly every hour on weekdays, less frequently at weekends.
By car: Dokkum is an easy drive from Leeuwarden on the N361. From Groningen, take the N361 westbound. Parking is available in the town centre.
By bike: Friesland has an excellent cycling network, and Dokkum is connected to the regional Fietsroutenetwerk. Cycling from Leeuwarden takes about 90 minutes on flat terrain.
