Zeldenrust (Seldom at Rest) is the second of Dokkum's two windmills within the old fortification ring, standing slightly north of De Hoop on the canal rampart. Together the two mills create the skyline that Dokkum is known for in Dutch travel photography.
Zeldenrust is an older structure than De Hoop and has been in various states of restoration over the years. Like De Hoop, it opens on national mill days and occasionally for special events.
The two mills are best seen together as part of the canal circuit walk — the path along the top of the old earthworks connects them, and the views from the ramparts over the town and the surrounding flat Frisian landscape are the best available perspective on Dokkum's geography.
