Enschede is very much a cycling city — the flat terrain and good cycle paths make a bike the easiest way to get around. Rental bikes are available at the railway station. The city centre is compact and entirely walkable for the main sights. Buses connect the city centre with the University of Twente campus and the outer districts.
For day trips into the surrounding Twente countryside, a bike is ideal — the region has an excellent network of cycling routes through farmland, forest, and river valleys.
