The old centre is small enough to walk entirely. From the station to the Markt takes five minutes; from the Markt to the Sint Janskerk and the Museum Gouda is another five. Most visitors on a day trip never need any transport at all.
For cycling, the area around the Hollandsche IJssel river and the polder landscape south of the city makes for pleasant rides. Bikes can be hired from the station.
