Molen de Roode Leeuw

An 18th-century working corn mill on Gouda's old town edge.

Molen de Roode Leeuw is Gouda's red-brick reminder that the city was not only cheese, candles, and stained glass. Built in 1771, the corn mill stands close to the historic centre and remains one of the most characterful stops on a walk around the old town edge.

Visit when the mill is open if you want more than an exterior photo. Even when closed, it pairs naturally with Gouda's canals and back streets, giving a little industrial texture to an otherwise very polished Dutch day trip.
