Welgelegen (Tjepkema's Molen)

Welgelegen, also known as Tjepkema's Molen, is a working smock mill built in 1849 on the southern edge of old Heerenveen. Restored to working order, it still grinds grain on volunteer-run open days and stands as a reminder that before peat-cutting and speed skating, milling was what kept this town fed.

The mill is most easily admired from outside, but visitors are welcome inside on opening days (check the local Molenstichting schedule). The brick base, white-painted cap, and slowly turning sails are photogenic at any time of day.
