Brunssummerheide is a broad heathland and woodland reserve just north of Heerlen, with sandy paths, open heather, small wetlands, and rolling ground that feels surprisingly wild for this part of Limburg. It is one of the easiest nature escapes from the former mining towns of the Parkstad area.
The reserve is good for walking year-round, but late summer heather bloom gives it the most color. Routes are informal enough for a short stroll yet extensive enough for a longer loop, and the open sections provide a useful contrast to Heerlen's urban and industrial heritage.
