Hindeloopen has its own railway station on the Leeuwarden–Stavoren line, making it one of the few tiny Frisian towns directly reachable by train. From Leeuwarden, the journey takes about an hour with one change at Sneek. The station is a short walk from the town centre.
By car, Hindeloopen is about 35 km south of Leeuwarden via the A32 and N359. From Amsterdam, the drive takes around two hours. The town itself is best explored on foot — the streets are narrow and parking is limited to a small area outside the historic centre.
