Oosterpoort

Hoorn's last surviving city gate, a 16th-century entrance beside the old harbour town's canals.

Oosterpoort is the only surviving city gate of Hoorn, a compact but memorable remnant of the town's fortified past. Dating from the late 16th century, it stands where the old approach met water, trade, and the defensive edge of a prosperous Zuiderzee port.

It is an easy stop on a walk through Hoorn's historic centre, especially if you continue toward the harbour and merchant streets. The gate is small, but it helps fix the old town's shape in your mind.
