The neighbourhood east of the Meuse and north of the railway, Wyck developed as Maastricht's commercial district in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The main street, Rechtstraat, is now full of independent shops, galleries, design stores, and restaurants — the most concentrated stretch of interesting shops in the city.
The Saturday market near the station is a Maastricht institution, particularly good for second-hand books, vinyl, and antiques. The neighbourhood also has some of the best café and restaurant options away from the Vrijthof. Cross via the Sint Servaasbrug and you're there in five minutes.
