Eating Out

Monnickendam has a handful of restaurants and cafes concentrated around the harbour and the Speeltoren. De Posthoorn on the Noordeinde is the most established restaurant in town, known for its classic Dutch-French cooking and a good wine list. The smoked eel sold at the harbour smokehouse is an essential local taste — eaten cold, on brown bread, it needs nothing else. Several small cafes along the main canal serve coffee and Dutch pancakes (poffertjes and pannenkoeken).
