Seinpost

The 22-metre dune cliff between the boulevard and the southern beach

Seinpost is the small cliff-edge promontory where the central boulevard meets the southern stretch of the beach. The dune drops dramatically to the sand, and a tiered viewing terrace gives a long view back over the entire Scheveningen seafront. A small bandstand and the modernist Seinpost restaurant occupy the top of the dune.

It is also the most reliable place for a sunset photograph of the Pier and the Kurhaus together. Free to access; sit on the wooden benches above the beach and watch the kitesurfers below. The terrace is busy in summer but quiet most of the year.

A story
Seinpost is one of the highest natural points on the South Holland coast — and the only place along the boulevard where the dune-cliff makes a sudden drop straight to the beach. A signal post here was used in the 18th and 19th centuries to communicate with offshore fishing boats; the village name 'Seinpost' (signal post) sticks today even though the post is long gone.
