The Hervormde Kapel on Hoofdweg is Tjuchem's sole Rijksmonument — a modest but carefully designed single-storey chapel built in 1928 for the local Dutch Reformed evangelism society. The architect, Evert Rozema from Appingedam, worked in the regional variant of the Amsterdam School style: the building has expressive brickwork, wooden roof beams, and a small roof turret that signals its purpose from the road without making grand claims about it.
The chapel sat closed for years before being put back into use in 1981, followed by a restoration completed in 1987. It is a good example of how small Groningen villages commissioned modest but architecturally considered buildings even for minor congregations. The interior is plain, reflecting its origins as an evangelism hall rather than a full parish church. If you are passing through, the exterior is worth a pause — it is the kind of thing you would otherwise drive past without realising the thought that went into it.
