Getting There

The Weerribben is in northwestern Overijssel, between the towns of Steenwijk and Blokzijl. By car is the most practical option: from Steenwijk (itself reachable by direct train from Amsterdam in about 1.5 hours), the park entrances at Ossenzijl and Kalenberg are 12–15 km west on minor roads.

By train and bus from Amsterdam: take the intercity train to Steenwijk and then local bus towards Ossenzijl. Services are limited on weekends; check the NS and Connexxion timetables in advance. The journey takes about two hours total.

Cycling is excellent in this flat landscape. Giethoorn, the famous car-free village, is about 15 km southeast of the park and makes a natural base for combining both. Bicycle hire is available in Steenwijk.
