Cross-country ski trails

Geilo is one of Norway's premier cross-country skiing destinations, with around 220 km of groomed trails radiating from the village in every direction. The classic trail runs onto the Hardangervidda plateau toward DNT huts at Heinseter and Krækkja, where you can spend the night and ski back the next day; shorter loops near the village suit day skiers.

The trails are groomed daily through the season, with both classic and skating lanes on the main routes. Equipment can be rented in the village; lessons are widely available. The cross-country grooming is generally considered to be of higher quality than the alpine skiing, and Geilo regularly hosts national-level Nordic events.
