The original church in Kirkenes was destroyed during the Second World War along with most of the town. The current building, a simple red-brick structure in the centre of town, dates from the post-war reconstruction period of the early 1950s. It is not architecturally remarkable, but it stands as a quiet reminder of how completely the war erased the old Kirkenes and how the town rebuilt itself from scratch.
The interior is clean and uncluttered, with good views of the surrounding landscape through large windows. Services are held regularly; the church is open to visitors outside service times.
