Klippfisk — dried and salted cod — is the local dish to try, appearing in soups, as baked fillets, and in the traditional Norwegian-style bacalao stew. Kristiansund's restaurants are modest in number but reasonable in quality; the harbourfront and the streets around Kirkelandet have the highest concentration. Fresh fish and shellfish feature prominently through summer.
