Getting There

By air: Kristiansund Airport, Kvernberget (KSU) is on the eastern edge of the city on the Kvernberget plateau. Widerøe operates frequent services to Oslo Gardermoen and Bergen; journey time to Oslo is about an hour. The airport is small and easy to navigate. A local bus (Rutebil) connects it to the town centre; taxis are available but expensive.

By express bus: Kristiansund is served by Nettbuss and other regional operators. The most useful route is the Kystekspressen, which runs along the coast to Trondheim in about 2.5 hours — faster and more frequent than the train options from nearby Molde. Molde, 70 kilometres to the southeast, is a larger hub with more connections; it is possible to travel between them by ferry across the Moldefjord in around 1.5 hours, which combines the crossing with a fjord view.

By ferry (Hurtigruten): The Hurtigruten coastal steamer calls at Kristiansund both northbound (toward Trondheim and Ålesund) and southbound. It is a scenic way to arrive or depart, though not the fastest.

By road: From Trondheim (approximately 170 km), follow the E39 south then west via the Gjemnes tunnel. From Ålesund (about 130 km), the E136 runs east then the E39 continues north. The drive through the fjord landscape is attractive; allow 2–2.5 hours from Trondheim.

By train: The nearest train station is Molde or Oppdal; Kristiansund has no direct rail connection. The Rauma Railway from Dombås to Åndalsnes, then a bus connection, is a scenic but slow alternative.
