Grip

Tiny former fishing island and summer excursion northwest of Kristiansund.

Grip is a small island settlement far out from Kristiansund, once an important fishing community and now mostly a summer excursion. Its clustered wooden houses, open sea setting, and small stave church give it a very different feel from the mainland town.

The trip depends on seasonal boats and weather, so it takes more planning than a city walk. That is also why it is memorable: Grip gives travelers a compact glimpse of Norway's old coastal life, where fishing, church, weather, and isolation shaped the whole settlement.
