Fredvang

Small village on the northern part of Moskenesøy, the start of hikes to the wild outer coast at Yttersida

Fredvang sits on the northern part of Moskenesøy, connected to Flakstadøya by the two-span Fredvang bridges that cross the strait. The village itself is small but is the most popular starting point for hikes to the dramatic outer coast known as Yttersida — Kvalvika Beach, Ryten, and Selfjord are all reached from here.

The walk to Kvalvika takes about an hour each way over a rough but well-marked path; from Kvalvika a steep climb leads to the summit of Ryten with one of the most photographed views in Lofoten. The annual Draug Festival, a small local music event named after the mythical sea-ghost, is held here in July.
