Flakstad lies on the E10 highway, the only road through the Lofoten chain. The nearest airports are Leknes, 30 km east on the same road (with daily flights to Bodø), and Svolvær, 90 km east. Bodø has more flight options and is the main entry point for travellers coming from southern Norway or abroad. The Hurtigruten coastal cruise calls at Stamsund and Svolvær daily.
Most visitors hire a car, since the small Flakstad villages are not well served by bus. The local Lofoten bus does run along the E10 with stops at Ramberg, but reaching Nusfjord, Sund, Vikten, or Fredvang requires either a hire car, a hire bike, or a long walk. Distances are short — Ramberg to Nusfjord is 25 minutes by car — so a car offers the best balance of speed and freedom.
