Storvågan

Storvågan is the cultural quarter of Kabelvåg: three small museums sharing a single ticket and a setting on the shore facing west toward open water. The site sits on top of the medieval town of Vågar, the original royal trading post, and you can wander between excavation areas, reconstructed buildings, and the museum collections on foot.

Allow half a day. Combine with a walk along the shore back into the village or, if the weather is in, a meal at one of the restaurants on Kabelvåg harbour.

A story
Storvågan is the name now used for the small headland a kilometre west of Kabelvåg where the Lofoten Museum, Espolin Gallery, and Aquarium cluster. But it is also the site of medieval Vågar — for several centuries the most important town in northern Norway. The archaeological excavations there are not finished and run as a long-term project.
