Munkebu Hut

The Munkebu mountain cabin, operated by the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT), is the most popular overnight hiking destination in Moskenes. The trail starts from Sørvågen and climbs steadily for about two hours through increasingly dramatic terrain to the unmanned cabin at around 400 metres, which sits above a small mountain lake and looks out towards Hermannsdalstinden, the highest peak in western Lofoten at 1,029 metres.

DNT members pay reduced rates; the cabin is self-service with bedding and basic cooking equipment. Book ahead in summer. From Munkebu you can continue to Hermannsdalstinden itself — a full-day undertaking requiring good weather and solid mountain experience — or return the same way. The round trip from Sørvågen is manageable in a long summer day.
