Breiavatnet and Stavangerpark

Breiavatnet is a small lake right in the centre of Stavanger, ringed by the city park (Stavangerpark) and surrounded by cafes, benches, and the kind of everyday urban life that makes Norwegian cities agreeable. Swans and ducks use the lake year-round. In summer the park is a gathering place; in winter the surrounding streets and the lake itself sometimes freeze, giving the centre a quieter, more Nordic character.

The park sits between the cathedral and the main shopping street, making it an obvious rest stop when walking around the city centre. The setting shows Stavanger's scale well — a proper city with a genuinely village-sized heart.
