Trondheim's drinking and café scene is centred on two areas: Bakklandet across the river, with its wooden houses and slower pace, and Solsiden — a redeveloped shipyard district north-east of the centre — which packs together rooftop bars and student-leaning nightspots along an old canal. The central city has plenty of options too, especially around Nordre gate and Kjøpmannsgata.
