Trondheim rewards unhurried exploration. The medieval cathedral is the obvious anchor, but the city has much more: a royal palace made of wood, a river lined with colourful warehouses, and a hilltop fortress with sweeping views over the fjord. Two strong museums — one dedicated to decorative arts, one to musical instruments — round out a full day.
