NTNU University Museum

Wide-ranging natural history and archaeology museum on the Kalvskinnet hill

The university museum sits on the Kalvskinnet hill west of the cathedral and covers a remarkably broad sweep — Trøndelag archaeology from the Stone Age through the Viking era, church art from the Middle Ages, ecclesiastical silver, taxidermied Norwegian wildlife, and rotating science exhibitions. It is one of the oldest scientific institutions in Norway, founded in 1760.

The medieval section is the strongest part of the museum, with Viking-age finds from the region and a good display on the conversion of Norway to Christianity. Allow a couple of hours; the natural history rooms upstairs are particularly popular with families. Open Tuesday to Sunday.
