Kościuszko Market Square

Triangular central square — the city's main public space

The unusual triangular plan of Kościuszko Square reflects the medieval crossroads it grew from. Today it is the city's open-air living room: cafés on the south side, the old town hall (now the Podlaskie Museum) in the middle, and a clear line of sight up to the cathedral. The square was meticulously restored in 2007–08 with new paving and lighting that does not detract from the historic frontages.

Markets, summer concerts, and the city's Christmas fair all take place here. Walk a few blocks in any direction and you are on the main pedestrian streets: Lipowa to the west, Sienkiewicza to the north.
