Kamienna Góra

Wooded inner-city hill with the best view over the harbour, reached by funicular

Kamienna Góra is the wooded hill that rises immediately south of the city centre — 54 metres above sea level, capped by a steel cross visible from far out at sea, and laced with the streets of one of Gdynia's most attractive residential districts. The villas date from the 1920s and 30s, when the new city's wealthier residents built modernist houses on the slope.

A short funicular (free) climbs from Sienkiewicza street to the top, where the cross sits in a small park with a viewing platform looking over the port, the museum ships, and the bay beyond. The walk down through the residential streets afterwards — Mickiewicza, Bema, Korzeniowskiego — is one of the best modernist-architecture walks in Poland.
