Jelenia Góra's appeal is split between its compact old town and the mountains on its doorstep. The arcaded market square and baroque churches occupy a morning; Chojnik Castle, the Karkonosze National Park trails, and the spa town of Cieplice fill the rest of a visit. In winter the nearby Szklarska Poręba and Karpacz resorts draw skiers from across Poland.
