Giszowiec is a planned miners' district in Katowice, laid out in the early 20th century as a garden-city alternative to dense industrial housing. Low houses, greenery, and a village-like plan made it unusually humane for a coal-company settlement, and enough of that structure survives to make the neighborhood distinct.
It pairs well with Nikiszowiec or the Silesian Museum for a fuller picture of industrial Silesia. The pleasure is in walking the streets and noticing how architecture, labor history, and urban planning overlap, rather than in visiting a single ticketed attraction.
